What's in a name?
Some psychologists believe that people's names may affect how other people perceive or judge them. A name, especially women's names, can be used to guess how old someone is. Popular girl's names tend to change more frequently than boy's names (which tend to be more traditional). So, a woman named Dorothy or a Jeanne maybe in her 70s, where as a Karen or Marilyn maybe in her 60s, Kirsten or Kristen maybe in her 30s, and Skye or Jess in her 20s.

Other psychologists have suggested that a person's name may influence the work others belive a person does. For instance a person named Hank, maybe more likely to be thought of as a truck driver. Where as parents who have named their son David maybe setting their son up for a professional career. That said, these psychological findings about the meaning people associate with baby names are not written in stone, and while they are interesting reading, they probably should not be taken too seriously.

Choosing your baby's name
Choosing your baby's name may either be one of the easiest or hardest things that you'll ever do. For some people naming their child is easy, they have always liked a certain name, there was never any doubt. For those of us less fortunate, there are a couple of guidelines to naming our children. Firstnames are always followed by a surname, so matching your baby's name to your surname may be an important consideration for you. Some families have traditional names that are passed down to children from generation to generation. Another common practise, is for a child's middle name to be the same as their mother or father's first name.

Unique spellings of baby names
Unique spellings are one way of making your baby's name stand out in the crowd. There are many traditional names that are now being freshened up by changing the usual letters of a baby name with letters that sound similiar. For example, the girl's first name Cadence may be also be spelled Kadence, while Kacey can also be spelled Kacie. This naming convention was probably inspired by the many different spellings of some names that are used in different languages. For example, the English and French boy's first name Joseph, is spelt Jose when the names origin is either Portuguese and Spanish. Furthermore, both Joseph and Jose are derived from the Hebrew baby name Yosef!
